Snacks For Kids

Snacks are all kids seem to want to eat at times. Small, easy to eat high energy snacks are the favorites of most Snacks For Kids - the more sugar and fat the better - or so it seems. This is hard enough to deal with with out the impact of the media promoting the type of foods we as parents want our kids to avoid.

Kids need high amounts of energy for numerous reasons ranging from the fact that they are often growing and seem to be in a hurry to learn and do everything now! This type of physical demand is most often best served by many meals a day and snacks can fill the gaps in-between. So don't view snacks as a problem but rather a way to moderate extremes of activity and energy lows in growing kids.

Snacks For Kids Teeth

There are a lot of Healthy Snacks For Kids that a child's dentist might suggest. Vegetable sticks, with or without a dip, cheese, yoghurt and fresh fruit make for a healthy set of teeth. Finishing a snack with a little cheese or milk can in fact offer some protection from the Calcium they release.

Sticky syrupy drinks should be avoided since they will stay on the teeth for some time allowing the bacteria to generate tooth damaging acids. Some of these foods may be so called "natural" snacks but they can never-the-less lead to tooth damage. White bread, processed peanut paste, some fruit leathers and even some fruits are not the best choices if the kids are not likely to get to brushing their teeth for a while.

Your choices of course are more varied if you are able to get the children to brush their teeth after eating these sugary foods. Even rinsing their mouth out with water will do better than nothing. Either way some foods are only Snacks For Kids in limited quantities.

Good Snack Bad Snack

Children will often gravitate towards the less healthy snacks if allowed to choose themselves. When buying snacks for your kids avoid these and look for the healthier versions instead. For instance deep fried potato chips can be replaced with bannana chips or oven baked corn chips. They want popcorn, fine, so long as it's air popped.

If you don't have the nasty varieties in your home then kids will take the healthy snacks.

Try to start the whole process from when they are very young and teach them what can be taken in larger quantities and which ones should be infrequent. This way you don't have to always say no to their requests.

Easy Snacks To Make

Another trick with Snacks For Kids is to involve them in the food making process. If fun is woven into the preparation of their snack then they are more likely to eat the "unusual". Carrot sticks, celery, orange wedges, nuts, sultanas, apple wedges and fruit pieces in general can be a lot of fun. Look for  recipes especially written for kids.
